Mariela Gamboa / Impact Analyst
Mariela Gamboa is an Environmental Engineer with a passion for architecture and design. Her experience includes a project for linking carbon neutrality to the RESET standard (Requisitos para Edificaciones Sostenibles en el Trópico) with CFIA (Colegio Federado de Ingenieros y Arquitectos), where she contributed her expertise in measuring the environmental impact of construction and design projects. At CJI, Mariela leads all impact metrics and has been instrumental in creating guides, resources, and calculators to help measure impact.
Mariela’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond her professional life. She is deeply interested in sustainable urbanism and strives to make a positive impact on the environment and society.
Federico Salas / Team Lead Architect
Costa Rica-born architect Federico graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 2017. He has contributed to large-scale projects for several institutions, including the Ministry of Public Education, Ministry of Justice, and Judicial Power. As a private consultant, he worked on a proposal for a multi-modal urban transport station. As leader and co-founder of the citizen’s collective Nostrasladamus, he has collaborated to publish documents on urban mobility by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Policies, focusing on reducing car dependency by promoting pedestrian and active mobility-focused infrastructure and public transportation. Nostrasladamus also collaborated on the redaction of the first law dedicated to cycling mobility and safety in the country. Fede is learning all about bio construction, regenerative agricultural holistic systems, and bamboo design. He believes implementing natural materials, vernacular architecture, and ancient construction knowledge into modern residential projects is the way to reduce the construction industry’s carbon footprint. Fede is a musician and is passionate about the creative process and design behind public spaces, urban communities, cinema, furniture, and origami. He has even tried his hand at creating his own hot sauces.
